Roger Spitz, MSc, FCA is an international bestselling author, President of Techistential (Climate & Foresight Strategy), and Chair of the Disruptive Futures Institute.
Roger has two decades of experience in leading investment banking and venture capital businesses, while he has been advising CEOs, founders, boards, and shareholders on their most strategic decisions, evaluating their organizations’ competitiveness, and preparing for the disruptions ahead. He sits on several advisory boards of companies, climate councils, VC funds, and academic institutions worldwide.
A world-leading authority on foresight, sustainability, and transformative innovation, Roger has written four influential books as part of the magnum opus The Definitive Guide to Thriving on Disruption collection. His latest book reached the #1 Bestseller in Future Studies, Green Business, and Sustainable Development Economics. Volume IV – Disruption as a Springboard to Value Creation also reached the #1 New Release in the following categories: Strategic Management, Business Planning & Forecasting, Business Education, Business Planning & Forecasting, Organizational Learning, and Business Technology Innovation.
Roger publishes extensively on decision-making in uncertain and complex environments, following his seminal paper in the Journal of Futures Studies on The Future of Strategic Decision-Making, he coauthored An Existential Framework for the Future of Decision-Making in Leadership.
At Techistential, his renowned strategic foresight practice, Roger advises boards, leadership teams, and investors on sustainable value creation. As the Sustainable Futures Practice Lead at Techistential, Roger provides foresight-driven advice on systemic change including the global energy transition. He lead the Disruptive Futures Institute into a global executive education center that helps organizations build capacity for futures intelligence, resiliency, and systemic change. Roger is also an industry-recognized expert advisor, writer, and speaker on artificial intelligence, and has invested in a number of AI startups. He Chairs the Disruptive Futures Institute’s Center for Artificial Intelligence, is a professional member of IEEE, the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) in Palo Alto, the Society for the Study of Artificial Intelligence & Simulation of Behaviour (AISB) in UK, and of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) in the US (Governance & Board Practices). He is Fellow (FCA) of the ICAEW in the UK and Council Member of GLG.
Roger is a contributing writer and member of MIT Technology Review, a member of the Association of Professional Futurists (APF, Washington), the Foresight Institute (San Francisco), Institute for the Future (Palo Alto), and the World Futures Studies Federation (Paris).
As former Global Head of Technology M&A with BNP Paribas, Roger advised on over 50 transactions with a deal value of $25 billion. He launched the bank’s US M&A practice in San Francisco and built its European Technology & Digital investment banking franchises in London and Paris.
With an early career in Venture Capital, Roger remains a supporter of the venture-backed ecosystems both as a deep tech investor and as an advisor to several incubators, accelerators, and VC funds in Silicon Valley, including Berkeley’s SkyDeck, Nasdaq Entrepreneurial Center, and CITRIS Foundry Innovation Incubator.
Roger earned his Master’s Degree of Science in Corporate & International Finance (MSc) from the University of Durham (UK) and qualified as a Chartered Accountant at ACA, Institute of Chartered Accountants of England & Wales. He trained as a non-executive director (NED), was bestowed ICAEW’s prestigious Fellowship title (FCA), and also holds a certificate in AI & Strategy from the MIT Sloan School of Management and Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence Lab (CSAIL).
In 2020, Roger earned his certificate in Strategic Foresight from the Professional Certificate Program at the University of Houston, the longest-running foresight graduate program in the world since 1975.
Born in South Africa, based in San Francisco, Roger has given over 100 keynote talks globally. He frequently contributes across leading media and has guest lectured at many of the world’s most prestigious academic institutions.
Bilingual in English and French, Roger has lived in 10 different cities across three continents.
