Dr. Steven F. Palter
The ZDNet article A new way to find invisible tumors said
An American doctor has developed a new surgery technique that enables surgeons to see tumors and other pathologies invisible with previous methods. This new “x-ray vision” laparoscopic technology received the first prize for technical achievement at the 62nd annual meeting of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM). This new method incorporates specific filters in the endoscope light system, and surgeons can see “the tiny amounts of fluorescent light that all living human tissues give off when illuminated, a phenomenon called autofluorescence.” In a first step, this technique will be used for the diagnosis of endometriosis, a potentially debilitating disease that affects 5.5 million women in the United States alone. As the system can be used to view virtually any organs, the research team is already focused on other applications, such as cancer detection. But read more…
This new system has been developed by Steven Palter, who’s been working for years to integrate high technology developments into surgical procedures and tools. He’s also the creator of the Docinthemachine website, which is focused on new technology developments in medicine, and the Scientific Director for Gold Coast IVF, which provides treatment for all causes of infertility and is based in Syosset, NY.
Steven F. Palter, M.D. is founder and medical director of
Gold Coast IVF, has dedicated his career to making the dreams of
infertile
couples come true. He has treated patients from all over the world, and
his work is frequently featured in the press, including The New York
Times, Newsday, The Daily News, and CBS News.
Steven received his undergraduate and medical degrees from Boston
University in the Accelerated Six-Year Medical Honors Program where he
won the Edelin Prize for Excellence in Ob Gyn. He completed his Ob
Gyn residency at the State University of New York at Buffalo where he
was awarded the Chairman’s Award for clinical and academic excellence
and special recognition from the Association of Professors of Ob Gyn.
He then completed his fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and
Infertility at Yale University School of Medicine and achieved board
certification. He remained on the Yale faculty for seven years and
served in many leadership positions, including Clinic Chief of
Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility and Director of several
programs including the Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship.
He has authored dozens of articles, research papers, and book chapters,
and his ongoing clinical research and innovative techniques have
garnered numerous awards from sources as diverse as the
American
Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and the
American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL), where he
was elected to a leadership
position on the Board of Trustees. He has been invited around
the world to teach physicians his innovative techniques, and is a
frequent lecturer at medical meetings and conferences. He is the
recipient of numerous research grants, has mentored trainees from over
a dozen nations, and has been invited to perform laparoscopic and
hysteroscopic surgery in the US, South America, the Middle East,
Europe, and Asia.
Steven has special interests in infertility, in vitro
fertilization, advanced endoscopic surgery,
endometriosis, fibroids,
PCOS, recurrent miscarriage and the development of minimally
invasive
surgical methods and equipment. He is distinctive in having specialized
training and expertise in both medical and surgical therapies and can
offer patients unique options for treatment.
Steven left the full-time faculty at Yale to create his own center,
based in Syosset, New York. His goal in establishing Gold Coast IVF is
to continue to provide his specialized, cutting-edge treatments in a
warm, compassionate environment.
