Miguel F. Aznar

Miguel F. Aznar is Director of Education at the Foresight Institute, Executive Director at KnowledgeContext, and Instructor of Emergent Science and Technology and Instructor of Nanotechnology Cluster at UC Santa Cruz.

Miguel went to the University of California at Berkeley, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in 1987. He was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society and was a Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society member and chapter president.

He started his working career as Assistant Project Manager in the Design Department at Amdahl Corporation during 1984–1987. He continued as Senior Consultant at Ernst & Young until 1993 when he became Account Consultant for AT&T.

After AT&T, he moved from consultancy to Software Engineering for Open Systems Development, where he managed source code for Macintosh-PC compatibility. He was at AT&T until 1997. During that same year, Miguel volunteered for Sierra in the Sea Bicycle Tour where he worked as a Route Director, Tour Director, and is still working as a Catering and Entertainment Director.

In 1998, Miguel founded KnowledgeContext, an educational nonprofit corporation whose mission is to improve technological literacy among young people. He is currently there as Executive Director.

In 2004, he developed and started to teach a nanotechnology course at COSMOS, as Instructor of Nanotechnology at UC Santa Cruz. Being involved with nanotechnological literacy, Miguel became the Director of Education at Foresight Institute in 2005 where he still works today and corresponds with students interested in pursuing education in nanotechnology.

Miguel is also an author. He published two books, Technology Challenged: Understanding Our Creations & Choosing Our Future in 2005 and Nanoscience Education, Workforce Training, and K-12 Resources in 2010.

He is also a Contractor for the Santa Cruz County Office of Education, where he promotes science education in the county and is an instructor at Foothill College, where he runs the Nano Camp summer program in nanoscience. He is a member of the advisory board at Acceleration Studies Foundation and The Nanoethics Group. Miguel lives in Scotts Valley, California.
