Michael Strong, M.A. is Cofounder and Chief Visionary Officer,
Conscious Capitalism, Inc.
Michael cofounded Freedom Lights Our World (FLOW), the predecessor
organization to Conscious Capitalism, Inc., with John Mackey six years
ago in order to promote entrepreneurial and capitalist solutions to
world problems. Michael writes for both academic journals (The
Journal of Business Ethics, Economic Affairs, Critical
Review,
etc.) and
popular audiences (The Huffington Post,RealClearPolitics,
Microfinance Insights, Policy Innovations, Carnegie
Ethics, etc.)
He is the lead author, along with Muhammad Yunus, 2006 Nobel Peace
Prize laureate, Hernando de Soto, Co-chair of the U.N. Commission on the
Legal Empowerment of the Poor, John Mackey, and others of

Prior to cofounding FLOW and Conscious Capitalism, Michael spent fifteen
years creating and leading innovative schools based on Montessori,
Socratic, and entrepreneurial principles, including a charter school
named the 36th best public high school in the U.S. He is also the
author of
The Habit of Thought: From Socratic Seminars to Socratic
Practice, and has consulted for hundreds of educational
institutions
around the world.
Michael was educated at Harvard, St. John’s College, and the University
of Chicago, where his dissertation work was on “Ideas and Culture as
Human Capital” under Nobel laureate economist Gary Becker.
He has two children, Homer, a statistician, and Jemima, a pre-med
student, who are happy and well. He is married to Magatte Wade, a
serial entrepreneur from Senegal who created Adina World Beverages, the
highest profile U.S. retail brand created by an African entrepreneur,
and The Tiossano Tribe, a high-end organic skin care line based on
indigenous Senegalese recipes and ingredients.
Michael’s current work pushing the frontiers of Conscious Capitalism
includes a focus on the entrepreneurial creation of communities, legal
systems, and city-scale development. Michael sees the entrepreneurial
creation of new communities and new legal systems as the most rapid and
effective means of eliminating global poverty and creating ever greater
levels of happiness and well-being for all of humanity.
