Jerry Edling, M.A.
Jerry Edling, M.A. is an award-winning journalist, writer, and former air personality. He is broadcaster, editor, and writer for KNX Los Angeles, USA (Entercom Communications), the only all-news radio station in Los Angeles. Jerry is a specialist in public diplomacy, international broadcasting, and advocacy for freedom of expression.
Previously, since 2003 Jerry worked for CBS’s KNX Radio, one of the oldest stations in the United States, having received its first broadcasting license, as KGC, in December 1921 — in addition to tracing its history to the September 1920 operations of an earlier amateur station.
Between 2011 and 2012, Jerry was Editor-in-Chief at Public Diplomacy Magazine, an international publication devoted to research and commentary about public diplomacy.
Jerry is the Author of The Pandemic and the Medical Enlightenment: The View From 2035 published in Aftershocks and Opportunities: Scenarios for a Post Pandemic Future by Rohit Talwar.
He has been nominated for three Emmy Awards and five Writers Guild Awards, and he received two Golden Mike Awards, three Associated Press Awards, and one Mark Twain Award nomination.
Jerry spoke in 2015 on the topic News in a Network Society: The Future of the Media at World Future 2015, the annual conference of the World Future Society. In 2012 he was a keynote speaker for the Berlin International Freedom of Expression Forum, sponsored by the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy, and in 2013 he spoke on Diplomacy at the National Space Society Conference.
He is a Member of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and of the Writers Guild of America, West.
Jerry earned his Master’s Degree of Arts in Public Diplomacy from the University of Southern California in 2012. He earned his Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in English in 1972 from Dickinson College.
Before moving to California, Jerry was news director of seven radio stations in Pennsylvania and Florida. In Pennsylvania, he co-hosted the number one morning show in the Harrisburg-Lancaster-York market and co-hosted two prime time television specials. He also recorded a comedy album with Edd Hall, who later became the announcer on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
After his B.A., Jerry became a Producer at WINK-TV in 1985, producing the show devoted to the world, national, and consumer news, Close Up News. In 1995, he became News Writer and Associate Producer at KCAL-TV. While here, he received Emmy nominations for Best News Writer and Best Non-News Writer. And received two Golden Mike Awards.
After almost 10 years at KCAL-TV, Jerry became a Writer and Producer atKRON-TV in 2005, producing 11:00 news. In 2006, he passed a writing and voice audition for a position as an English-to-Africa Broadcaster at Voice of America. He continued his path as TV writer at KTLA-TV in 2007 for the nationally-syndicatedKTLA Morning News and KTLA Morning Show.
