Dr. Itamar Arel
Itamar Arel, Ph.D., M.B.A.
is an Associate Professor of Electrical
Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Tennessee and
directs the Machine Intelligence Lab at UT. He is the Chief Technology
Officer at Binatix, Inc. a Palo Alto based company that utilizes
proprietary machine learning for financial data analytics. During
2014–2015 he was a visiting Associate Professor at Stanford University’s
Computer Science Department.
Itamar received the Department of Energy
(DOE) Early Career Principal Investigator (CAREER) award in August 2004.
His primary research interests include biologically-inspired cognitive
architectures, machine intelligence, deep and reinforcement learning,
and high-performance custom hardware.

He earned his B.Sc. (1995), M.Sc. (1998), and Ph.D. (2003) degrees in
Electrical & Computer Engineering from the Ben-Gurion University in
Israel. He also earned his M.B.A. degree in 2002 from the Ben-Gurion
University in Israel.
