Dr. Edythe E. Weeks
Edythe
E. Weeks, J.D., Ph.D. is
Professor of Outer Space Development and International Relations
at Webster University Worldwide and is author of
Outer Space Development, International Relations, and Space Law: A
Method for Elucidating Seeds.
Edie teaches and develops online courses on space law and outer space
development themes at Washington University and Webster University, and
race and ethnic relations courses at Northern Arizona University. With a
Ph.D. in international relations and a Juris Doctors in law, she
combines insights from various disciplines including law, international
relations, race and ethnic relations, space law and politics, and has
presented papers on a variety of topics to experts within the space
community.
She has published several papers in the Colloquium
Proceedings of the International Institute of Space Law, the
International Astronautical Federation Congress and the American
Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics. This body of research helped
to prompt the issuance of an important policy statement clarifying
whether or not private property rights are permitted in outer space
resources, as she seeks to broaden the range of people knowledgeable
about outer space development.
Edie earned her B.A. in Economics at the
University Of Missouri — Columbia, College of Arts and Sciences
in 1984. She earned her J.D. in Law at the
University Of Missouri — Columbia, School of Law in 1987.
She earned her Ph.D. in Political
Science/International Relations at Northern Arizona University
in 2006 with the dissertation
The Politics of Space Law in a Post Cold War Era: Understanding
Regime.
She was elected into the International Institute of Space
Law in 2004.
