Professor Anthony L. Haynor
Anthony L. Haynor, Ph.D. is Associate Professor
of Sociology Anthropology and Social Work at Seton Hall University
and author of Social Practice: Philosophy and Method
(Kendall/Hunt, 2003).
A continuing interest of Anthony’s is how sociology as a distinct form of
consciousness has evolved, from the beginning of the field up to the
present. He has studied the efforts of sociologists to (1) arrive at a
general understanding of basic social processes such as cooperation,
competition, and exchange), (2) understand our particular period of
human history (modernity, postmodernity) as well as the quest for
meaning undertaken by those who exist under these conditions, and (3)
anticipate future developments.
He is also very interested in how
sociology can contribute in a meaningful way to human betterment, and in
this connection has developed a methodology for social problem-solving.
He has explored the question: How can sociology inform our quest for a
viable social order? The integration of sociology and ethics has been
and continues to be central to his work. A long-term project is the
development of a new curriculum capable of synthesizing the various
domains of knowledge. This project involves the
integration of the human sciences in the service of human flourishing.
Anthony earned his B.A. (Magna Cum Laude) in Sociology at
Brooklyn College, C.U.N.Y. in 1973.
He earned his M.A. in Sociology at Rutgers University in
1977.
He earned his M.Phil. in Sociology at Rutgers University in
1978.
He earned his Ph.D. in Sociology at Rutgers University
in 1983.
